How do you find a good breeder? One who is committed to promoting the standards of their purebred or mixed-breed dogs, and consistently produces mentally and physically sound dogs?

The internet is a vast resource of information, but how do you weed out an ethical breeder from
a puppy mill operation?
In short, by taking time to do a through research, rather than simply clicking the mouse over a pretty picture.
